Legislature, not electorate, should decide issue
     The governor’s recent choice of a black gay person, living with his partner of more than 30 years, for the state Supreme Court, shows that the governor, when he wants to, can look beyond the bigotry that characterizes the so-called “social value” discourse in too many other states.

Bridge repair in Howell does not appear to be showing any progress
     I am writing to complain about the inconvenience and unbelievable amount of time it has taken to replace the bridge at Echo Lake Park on Maxim-Southard Road in Howell. This so-called replacement work was initiated last summer and, per the Howell website, was supposed to be completed by Dec. 31, 2011.
