      Jackson Memorial preps for CJ IV track sectionals
           The Jackson Memorial High School boys track and field team is ready to make a statement in what will be a competitive Central Jersey Group IV state sectional meet to be held Feb. 11 at the John Bennett Indoor Athletic Complex in Toms River.

      Watt throws personal best in shot put at Harvard
           Harvard University junior Shannon Watt of Jackson threw a personal best 47-3 ¾ feet (14.42 meters) on her final attempt in the shot put competition and set a meet record as the Crimson won the fifth annual Battle of Beantown on Feb. 3 in Cambridge, Mass. “It was a huge throw,” said Watt. Watt, a graduate of Jackson Memorial High School, saw it coming.

      Donahue will head to Fordham; JMHS grad Smith to Monmouth
           Howell High School offensive lineman Tim Donahue, the anchor of a line that helped quarterback Ryan Davies set passing records with the Rebels, has signed a national letter of intent to attend Fordham University in the Bronx, N.Y., and to continue his football career with the Rams. Donahue made a verbal commitment to Fordham in October and made it official on signing day, Feb. 1.

      Howell bowlers strike it big
           What a week it was for Howell High School bowling. First, the boys and girls wrapped up their respective Shore Conference B Central Division titles. Then, on Feb. 4, the girls won the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group IV championship. The girls not only won the state sectional title, they owned it: all five starters qualified for the NJSIAA individual tournament.
