Local bands Batten Down the Hatches, Reality Check and Xero Gravity are among the winners of The Break band contest recently held at the Stone Pony, Asbury Park. More than 450 local bands competed in The Break contest, and these bands successfully moved through two elimination rounds and the finals.

JACKSON — Several weeks after the Jackson Township Council introduced the 2012 municipal budget on April 10, the town’s financial plan is in the books.

Following a 4-1 vote, the $38.2 million budget was heralded by officials as a lean road map to where Jackson needs to be with its finances. The 2012 budget is $500,000 less than the 2011 spending plan.

JACKSON – An investigation involving the Jackson Police Department and a K-9 unit from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office has resulted in the arrest of a Jackson man suspected of dealing in narcotics.

On May 8 an investigation led by Detective Sgt. Frank Mendez and Detective Mitch Cowit resulted in the arrest of William Volkes Jr., 24.

Woman’s advocacy for victims leads to honor

A New Jersey woman was honored in the nation’s capital recently by the Victims’Rights Caucus for her work on behalf of sexual assault victims in New Jersey. At a ceremony on Capitol Hill, Congressman Chris Smith (R-NJ) presented constituent Nicole Norberto with the Eva Murillo Unsung Hero Award.
