Soloman putting pop in EKU batting order

Bryan Soloman went from being an anemic hitter in March to a terrific one in May for Eastern Kentucky University, much like last year when the Jackson Memorial High School graduate earned Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year honors and a Louisville Slugger Freshman All American selection.

The 10U Howell Heat girls travel fastpitch softball team won the 2012 Jersey Shore Spring Classic in Tinton Falls. The Heat defeated the N.J. Extreme, 6-2, in the championship game.

To advance to the final, the Heat turned back the Jersey Flames, 2-0, and defeated the Staten Island, N.Y., Saints, 6-1.

Goetz track and field team sparkles in 2012

The Carl W. Goetz Middle School in Jackson has built a reputation for turning out outstanding athletes and having some very good sports teams over the years, but this year’s track and field squad has distinguished itself as being the best.

Sesely grabs first victory

Defending Modified stock car driving champion Anthony Sesely raced from 11th on the starting grid to win the 40-lap main event at Wall Stadium, Wall Township, on May 12. It was Sesely’s first win of the 2012 season.
