     On a night when humidity and searing heat made for sauna-like conditions, the smooth, calculated stride of 11-year-old Andrea Harding created a cool wind as she breezed over hurdles Monday at Lakewood High School.

     Eight players and one former coach from the Jackson-Lakewood area will take part in the 24th annual All-Shore Football Classic at 7:05 p.m. July 20 at Toms River East High School. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the gate. Proceeds from the event benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and other local charities. Former Lakewood High School standout and defensive end Thomas Carroll, headed to the University of Miami, Fla., Marcus Clayton (Jackson), Gary Edwards (Jackson), Rashawn Haynes (Lakewood), Carlton Henderson (Lakewood), Pat Mahan (Jackson), Marlon Rattray (Lakewood) and Vernon Sanders (Lakewood) are all members of the Ocean County team. Ocean County is coached by John Gardi, athletic director at Lacey High School and a former coach at Central Regional. Len Rivers, athletic director at Lakewood High School, is an assistant coach. Practices for the event start this Friday night. The Ocean County squad is practicing at Central Regional High School.
