      Howell’s Bob Agel and Marlboro’s Todd Cohen were members of the winning low-gross foursome at the Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey’s 15th annual Golf Classic at the Shore Oaks Golf Club. Cohen and Agel will have their names engraved on the Robert C. Stanley Jr. perpetual trophy for their win. Chris Carton of Tinton Falls and Mike O’Donnell of Avon rounded out the winning foursome. For Cohen and Carton, this marked the third time they were members of the winning foursome. They also won in 1998 and 2000. Cohen has served as chairman of the committee for the Classic for the last 11 years.

      The Howell Youth Basketball Association is holding registration at Howell Middle School North tomorrow from 7-9 p.m. This is the final registration date for the upcoming season. Only township residents may enter: boys in grades 1-8 and girls in grades 1-9. Fees are $75 for the first child, $35 for the second child and $15 for the third and each additional child. Parent or guardian must be present at registration and all players in grades 3-9 must also be present to be evaluated. Adult volunteers and coaches are needed.       The Monmouth County Park System will sponsor its annual Timberbrook Triathlon at the Manasquan Reservoir, Windeler Road, Howell, on Oct. 13 beginning at 8:30 a.m. The triathlon consists of a two-mile canoe/kayak, a four-mile mountain bike ride and a three-mile run. Individual, team and family awards will be presented. Registration fee is $20; $35 per team. Entries must be received by Oct. 5. A limited number of canoes and kayaks are available for rent at $12 per boat, includes paddles and life jackets. Call (732) 542-1642 for additional information.

      Enable Inc. will host the first annual Baseball Fantasy League Game at Waterfront Park in Trenton on Sept. 22 at 7:05 p.m. Former major league stars Goose Gossage, Art Shamsky, Ed Kranepool, Donn Clendenon, Scott Bradley, Steve Rogers, Paul Blair and others will team up with amateur players from throughout the state to play ball.       Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Monmouth County (BBBS) will hold its 12th Annual Golf Classic on Sept. 20 at Spring Lake Golf Club. BBBS matches at-risk children with adult volunteers who act as friends, confidants and mentors. The donation for the event is $300 per individual golfer, and $1,600 for a corporate foursome. The price includes a full day of golf and club service. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. with golfer goodie bags, including a Greg Norman golf shirt.       The Twin Brook Golf Center, located at 1251 Jumping Brook Road in Tinton Falls, will host the Toyota Golf Skills Challenge, the world’s largest amateur multi-skill golf competition, on Sept. 14-16. The 21-city national tour, patterned after the professional EMC Golf Skills Challenge, is expected to have more than 400 area amateurs participating. The challenge, which takes about 2 1/2 hours to complete, tests participant in a series of eight skills, including: long drive, short iron, trouble shot, greenside bunker, middle-iron shot, chip shot, pitch over hazard and putting. Players are given three attempts at each skill, with only the best shot counting toward their overall score. Divisions are offered for men (high and low handicaps), women, senior men (age 50 and older), juniors (ages 14-17) and kids (ages 8-13). Each of the Toyota Golf Skills Challenge city champions (the overall champion with the lowest score) will advance to the national finals, Nov. 2-3, in Myrtle Beach, S.C., for an opportunity to win a brand-new 2002 Toyota.
