      Jason Faigin, a pitcher in the New York Yankees minor league organization, will be offering pitching instruction for players ages 9-14 at the YMCA of Western Monmouth County starting Nov. 5. Faigin, a Marlboro High School graduate, was a closer for the Greensboro Bats, the Yankees’ Single A affiliate in the South Atlantic League this year. He will share his professional experience with the youngsters as he teaches the mechanics of pitching as well as the conditioning involved. Call (732) 462-0464 for additional information.

      Marlboro High School will be hosting the Mustang Invitational freshman boys’ soccer tournament this weekend. There will be 14 teams competing: Freehold Borough, Freehold Township, Colts Neck, Manalapan, Marlboro, St. John Vianney, Brick, Middletown North, Jackson, Southern, Toms River North, Wall and the top two seeds, Ocean and Toms River East.

      The quarterfinals will be played on Friday at the Recreation Center starting at 6. The semifinals and finals will be played at Marlboro High School with the final slated for 3 p.m. on the varsity field.

      The Howell Girls Softball League is accepting registrations for the 2002 spring season for ages 6-15. Sign-ups are on Nov. 17 from 9 a.m. to noon at Howell Middle School North, or Nov. 19 from 7-9 p.m. at Howell Middle School South. Call (732) 938-6023 for more information.

      Registration for the Holmdel Fall Classic will be closing on Nov. 1. Anyone planning to participate must send a check to the following address: Travel Team Account, P.O. Box 757, Holmdel, 07733. The schedule for the tourney will be issued on Nov. 2, and only confirmed teams will be included. The cost is $300 per team ($350 per team for two or more teams).

      Registration is being accepted for the Old Bridge winter ice hockey youth instructional program, sponsored by the township Department of Parks, Recreation and Social Services. The 11-week program will be held on Sunday evenings from Dec. 16 through March 10 at the Old Bridge Sports Arena. Youth, age 5 -12, will be instructed on the fundamentals of hockey, including stickhandling, passing, and shooting. Participants are required to wear full equipment. The 90-minute sessions are broken into two age groups, 5-8 and 9-13. The 5-8 group runs from 5:15-6:45 p.m., the 9-13 group runs from 6:45-8:15 p.m. The cost is $200 for Old Bridge residents and $250 for nonresidents.
