DIRT stars are coming to New Egypt Speedway on June 20

The stars and cars are all set to draw fire for the only midweek special of its kind in New Jersey this season, as New Egypt Speedway and Haldeman Ford of Hamilton present the Advance Auto Parts Modified Super DIRT Series Garden State Gunfight on Thursday night, June 20.

The 100-lap showdown, part of DIRT’s summer tour that snakes through six states and Canada, will afford fans a once-a-year opportunity to see the sport’s best of the best in one dead-aimed, winner-takes-all confrontation for New Jersey bragging rights and a $6,000 top prize.

And the names include all the Northeast’s top Modified cowboys. On the DIRT roster, there’s Brett Hearn, Tim McCreadie, Alan and Danny Johnson, Steve Paine, Billy Decker, Doug Hoffman, Kenny Tremont and Tim Fuller — a real pack of heavy hitters with big resumes and bigger artillery. The Garden State gang will be led by the likes of Billy Pauch, Kenny Brightbill, Keith Hoffman, Frank Cozze and Jimmy Horton, all feature winners already this season.

To further spark the action, the local boys have a little something to prove: the score currently stands at DIRT - 2, Locals - 1, in the three Super DIRT Series events New Egypt has hosted since 1998. Billy Pauch, track kingpin and two-time New Egypt Modified champ who’s eyeing his 600th career win this season, has been the only man capable of smoking DIRT’s potent posse to date. If Pauch and Co. want to even the score, they’ll have their hands full. Tim McCreadie, who’s already notched wins in a pair of series events this year, and defending race winner Billy Decker both took a real liking to the New Jersey half-mile when they blew into town in 2001, and they put on the show to prove it. With boasting rights and big bucks at stake, drivers on both sides will be sharpening their weapons.

Gates open at 4 p.m., with warm-ups scheduled for 6:30 and time trials starting at 7 p.m. General admission tickets for New Egypt’s Super DIRT Series Garden State Gunfight are $20 for adults, $13 for seniors, 65 and over, and $7 for children, ages 7-12. Kids 6 and under are free. For more information, call the track at (609) 758-1900.
