Jackson Women of Today appreciate support from local businesses

The Jackson Women of Today recently participated in Funtasia for Kids that was sponsored by the Ocean County Park System.

We spent the day slicing watermelons and selling them to the children who attended the event. We made a small amount of money for our food pantry by selling the melons, but since the day was sweltering and many of the kids attended the fair with little money, we gave whole melons away to the day camps as a much needed treat.

We would like to thank the new ShopRite in Jackson for its generous donation of the two field bins (approximately 85) watermelons. Since its grand opening this winter, ShopRite has proven to be a great neighbor to Jackson organizations. It gives willingly to the many Scout troops, PTAs and other groups that need assistance. In addition to Funtasia, the Jackson Women of Today are currently holding their Cute Kid Contest in Shop-Rite. Fliers to enter the contest, as well as the display of cute kids to vote on, are located by the photography portion of the courtesy desk.

The Jackson Women of Today sponsor the Jackson Food Pantry, which is open to all Jackson residents and is funded through our fund-raisers and donations. We also offer assistance to other local organizations. The next major fund-raiser for the Jackson Women of Today will be the popular Mother’s Market Oct. 5.

During the past year of the economic and security issues, we have seen many new applicants to our food pantry. Every helping hand and donation are needed so that we can continue to make a difference in our community. Businesses such as ShopRite are a wonderful addition to our landscape.
