Local students awarded at Msgr. Donovan HS Local students awarded at Msgr. Donovan HS Three local students received recognitions at the recent awards ceremony at Monsignor Donovan High School, Toms River. Daniel Kochis, a senior from Jackson, received the Dwight D. Eisenhower Award for leadership qualities, from Retired Major Gen. Edward M. Crowley. Nicholas Abbaticola from Howell received the Doug Oland Memorial Scholarship for $1,000 from Eileen McCullion, assistant principal of Monsignor Donovan High School. Michael Boynton of Lakewood received the Brother Frank Guido Scholarship for $500 that recognizes a student for religious commitment. McCullion made the presentation of this award. Holiday Bazaar slated at Providence Christian Providence Christian Academy in Farmingdale will be sponsoring a holiday bazaar on Nov. 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be crafts, baked goods, a silent auction and a "trash-and-treasure trove." All area residents are invited to come out and start their holiday shopping while supporting Providence’s Scholarship Fund and Building Fund. For directions or more information call (732) 938-7275. Seniors Hanukkah Party slated in Lakewood Beth Medrash Govoha, the Yeshiva College of Lakewood, and the Kokes Organization are co-sponsoring the second annual Seniors Hanukkah Party. Older adults throughout the Lakewood area are invited to attend on Dec. 2 from 4-6 p.m. at the Ramada Inn, 2373 Route 9. This event will include a lively presentation of holiday insights by Rabbi Joshua Hill, director of community relations and senior programs for Beth Medrash Govoha. Lighting of the festive Hanukkah menorah will be followed by a holiday buffet featuring traditional holiday foods, a spirited musical presentation and a Hanukkah Wheel of Fortune contest. Knights of Columbus to host blood drive The Howell-Jackson Knights of Colum-bus will be holding a blood drive under the auspices of the Central Jersey Blood Center on Dec. 6 from 5-8:45 p.m. at the council home on Bartley Road in Jackson. Radio City Christmas Spectacular trip slated Plumsted Township Community Education will be sponsoring a bus trip to the Radio City Christmas Spectacular featuring the Rockettes on Dec. 7. The $130 fee includes bus transportation and front orchestra seating. After the show there will be time for residents to enjoy the holiday decorations or do some early Christmas shopping. Goetz School to hold Holiday Fair Nov. 23 The C.W. Goetz School PTA will be hosting a Holiday Fair on Nov. 23 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the school, 835 Patterson Road, Jackson. Strand Theatre Project to present ‘Scrooge’ The award-winning Strand Theater Project will present the musical ‘Scrooge’ at the Strand Theatre, 400 Clifton Ave., Lakewood, on Dec. 4, 5, and 6 at 7:30 p.m., Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 8 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for seniors and children. Santa’s workshop The Ocean County Department of Parks and Recreation would like area children to spend a fun-filled 90 minutes with Santa’s elves. Participating children will share a snack, read stories, make a holiday craft and have a picture taken with Santa. The program will be held in the cafeteria of the Ocean County Administration Annex, 129 Hooper Ave., Toms River, on Dec. 7 from 1-2:30 p.m. or 3-4:30 p.m. The fee to attend is $8 per child and participants are asked to bring an unwrapped toy or non-perishable food item for the sheriff’s food and toy drive. Advanced paid registration is required. When registering a completed, signed application must be included. Checks may be made payable to "The County of Ocean." Temple Sisterhood to hold membership event The Sisterhood of Congregation Ahavat Shalom will hold its annual "Paid-up" Membership event on Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the social hall at the temple, 1075 Forest Ave., Lakewood. Induction of new members and an installation of officers will take place. Membership dues are $18 annually. There is no membership fee for "Little Sisters," who must be 11 years old to join. Special evening entertainment includes learning Israeli dancing with Sarah Alter of East Brunswick. Attendees are asked to wear comfortable clothing and shoes.
