Volunteers needed for National Trails Day JACKSON — The Jackson Pathfinders will be holding a special community service event June 7, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in celebration of National Trails Day. Volunteers are needed to help with trail maintenance at the Bunker Hill Bogs area throughout the day. They will be spreading woodchips on the trail and widening it. Volunteers should meet at the trail entrance located at 810 East Veterans Highway. A map of the trail can be viewed on the Internet Web site at www.jacksonpathfinders.org. Lunch will be provided. Volunteers should bring work gloves, shovels, rakes, and/or hand pruners if possible. Heavy rain will postpone the event to June 8. National Trails Day is an annual event sponsored by the American Hiking Society. This year’s theme is "Healthy Trails, Healthy People." Local trails give everyone in the community a place to exercise and enjoy the outdoors, according to a press release. Jackson Pathfinders is a community group working to preserve open space in Jackson and to maintain existing trails for uses such as hiking, jogging, biking and horse riding. The Pathfinders meet at 8 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month in the main meeting room of the Jackson municipal building. Details: (732) 833-0373 or visit the Web site listed above. |
