Rogers enjoys Sunday drive at Wall Township Speedway

WALL TOWNSHIP — Modified stock car driver Marc Rogers was more than happy that Wall Township Speedway management decided to use its Sunday rain date after a heavy downpour Saturday night.

Under the sunshine, he raced to his first win of the year in the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Modified feature race. It was the Brick resident’s first win of the season and he became the fifth different winner in as many races.

In the companion Pro Stock 25-lapper, defending champ Chas Okerson of Freehold advanced to the front, took over the lead on lap eight and then raced to his second straight win. A fierce battle for second place boiled over in the closing laps with both Greg Gastelu of Jackson and Rob Williams of Farmingdale tangling and sliding off the speedway. When the dust settled, Eric Albright was declared the runner-up while Matt Przmielewski, Jim Benton and Rich Lovelace completed the top five.

Rob Hyer of Cliffwood Beach was dominant in winning the 25-lapper for the Street Stocks, leading the event from start to finish. Beachwood’s Bill Vanderveen, Brick’s Ron Frees, Bob Geiger of Absecon and Geoff Green of Toms River were second through fifth.

The 20-lapper for the Legend Cars was a battle of the Rochelle Brothers from start to finish. At the checker, defending champ Jason Rochelle raced to victory. Keith Mullineaux of Egg Harbor Township was tops in the 15-lapper for the Truck Series.

Don Adams of Robbinsville roared into the lead on lap three and then powered on to victory in the 20-lapper for the TQ Midgets.
