Sport Shorts The Ocean County Department of Parks and Recreation is conducting a "Ready, Set, Go" track and field program this summer. The program will be held at the Tennis Pro Shop of Ocean County Park, Lakewood, Mondays from July 21 through Aug. 11, 2-3 p.m. The fee is $12 per child. The program is designed to introduce children to various track and field events. Included will be sprints, hurdles, dashes, a softball throw, and a standing long jump. The Ocean County Department of Parks and Recreation is conducting Tots Playground Games this summer. The program will be held at the Tennis Pro Shop of Ocean County Park, Lakewood, on Tuesdays from July 22 through Aug. 12 from 2-3 p.m. The fee is $12 per child. Tickets are limited and are for the third day of the event in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. Early registration is recommended. The $75 cost includes reserved seats, transportation and driver gratuity. The bus departs at 8:30 a.m. from the new township parking lot on Second Street, between Route 9 and Clifton Avenue. To reserve a seat, contact the school at (732) 905-3685. The Jackson All-Star Basketball Camp (developmental and intermediate) will have several sessions over the next few weeks. The camp July 7-11 is for boys in grades 1-4. The camp July 14-18 is for boys in grades 5-8. The camp July 21-25 is for boys in grades 1-4. Grade is determined as the grade the camper is entering in September. The camp times are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Christa McAuliffe Middle School. All aspects of the game will be emphasized through individual and team instruction, lectures, skills training and competitions. Campers need sneakers with good support, a towel, and a water bottle. Drinks and snacks will be sold at the clinic. The camp director is Nate Grosshandler, assistant basketball coach at Jackson Memorial High School. Camp counselors include past and current members of the high school team. The one-week sessions cost $110 per player. Individual campers who attend week one and three will be given a $10 discount on week three. In addition, as a yearly special, the Nick "the Quick" Werkman Hot Clinic will be run at the camps with special prizes for campers. |
