Jackson school district continues to deal with impact of growth In response to the opinions in the June 26, 2003, Tri-Town News regarding the Jackson schools, Jackson continues to grow. Lay the blame at the feet of the developers that still see Jackson as a cash cow. I don’t know what, if anything, could have been done to stop or slow the growth in Jackson, but it happened and we must all work together to find solutions. I hope that our elected officials will find a way to see us through this (or they won’t be holding their positions come next election). As long as permits are given out, developers continue to build and unwary new residents continue to climb aboard a sinking ship, the trailers will have to remain. The trailers indeed would have been temporary if the school population had not continued to grow. How can we get rid of them when there is no place to put the children? Unfortunately, we will have to correct the conditions that caused the mold and monitor the situation over time. Since 1994 the citizens of Jackson have voted three times to build new schools. Our taxes will continue to climb as we struggle to educate each child that enrolls in our schools. Jackson schools have a teaching staff that boasts some of the best educators in the state. Our teachers are among some of the most caring individuals I have ever had the pleasure to meet. That is why we continue to stay here and others continue to move here. One of my sons attended a trailer classroom for two separate years, trailers that did not exist prior to the building boom. A good education for each one of our children is what we all want, it does not matter how much money we make, or the cost of our home, or the title we hold. We all have to suffer through this, the term "growing pains" aptly applies here. Valerie Tomuccio Jackson |
