      awarded to local girls

The Girl Scouts of Ocean County awarded its William and Ida Kiefer Memorial Scholarships to 14 Girl Scouts in 2003. The scholarship fund, which is awarded each year, was created by a legacy gift from Ida Kiefer to help graduating senior Girl Scouts achieve their academic goals and help them to realize their full potential.

Fourteen scholarships totaling $15,900 were awarded this year. Jennifer Rosseter of Lakewood, a graduate of Lakewood High School, received $3,000. She will attend Findlay (Ohio) University for equine studies.

Scholarships of $500 were also presented to nine girls attending college. They received scholarships in the past and were eligible to reapply. Local recipients are:

Jacqueline Gardocki of Jackson, studying anthropology at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pa.; Kimberly Kobetitsch of Jackson, studying elementary education at Ramapo College, Mahwah; Robin Morales of Jackson, studying communications at Rutgers University, New Brunswick; Vanessa Morales of Lakewood, studying business at Penn State University, State College, Pa.; Jennifer Mary Recht of Jackson, studying philosophy at Smith College, Northampton, Mass.
