Plumsted residents come through in search for lost dog

On Saturday morning, July 26, our daughter, Stephanie McMahon, was to drop off her dog, Dozer, and our dog, Buster, at Timberlane Kennel in Plumsted prior to joining us with her family down the shore for a week’s vacation.

We hadn’t quite made it to our rented shore house when Stephanie called us in a panic to say that before the kennel could take possession of Buster, he pulled his head through his collar and ran away somewhere on Route 528. We immediately turned around.

By mid-afternoon, we had posted and handed out over 200 fliers with Buster’s picture on them. We searched neighborhoods, main roads and acres of woods – many times escorted by area residents. Buster is an adopted dog who came to us with many fears, and we kept picturing him lost and looking for his way home. He was on medication that made him hungry and thirsty.

We live in East Brunswick and, of course, he never would have made it home. However, thanks to a family on Hopkins Road who spotted our dog in the woods behind their home on Sunday, Buster was eventually coaxed into captivity.

This letter serves as a great big thank you to all our daughter’s friends and neighbors and the total strangers who took time out of their day and night to help us look for our dog. The help and concern of the residents of Plumsted overwhelmed us. We are comforted to know that our daughter and her family live in a town with so many wonderful people – those who would help strangers with their personal crisis. Again, thank you all for your help.
