      EDWARD JOHN PATRICK GALLAGHER SR., 81, of Middletown, died July 28 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived in Staten Island, N.Y., prior to moving to Middletown 47 years ago. He was an insurance broker for 59 years and the sole proprietor of Nixon-Gallagher Co., New York City, for 36 years, retiring in January. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. He attended the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md., and served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the board of directors at the Norcross Wildlife Foundation. He was predeceased by a daughter, Joanne Gallagher, in 1992. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Johanna Shortall Gallagher of Middletown; three sons and daughters-in-law, Edward and Lynn Gallagher Jr. of Furlong, Pa., Stephen and Ann Gallagher of Manalapan, and Matthew and Sharon Gallagher of Allentown; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Patricia Gallagher and husband James of Hopewell, Mary Gallagher and husband Mark of St. Paul, Minn., Elizabeth Gallagher of Keasbey, and Kathryn Gallagher and husband Laurence of Arlington, Va.; a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Edna Gallagher of Upper Saddle River; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary and William Ryder of Staten Island, and Therese Brown of Brooklyn; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

      ANN M. MOORE, 84, of Howell, died July 19 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Byram, Conn., she resided in Lakewood before moving to Howell. She was a homemaker. She was predeceased by her husband, Ellsworth Moore, in 1981. She is survived by three sons, Carl Bohack Sr. of Howell, Abram Moore of Brick, and Ellsworth Moore of Lakewood; two brothers, Frank Bohacs of Florida, and Julius Bohacs of Connecticut; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Arrangements were under the direction of C.H.T. Clayton and Son Funeral Home, Adelphia section of Howell.

      ELIJAH "SLICK" JENKINS SR., 67, of Freehold, died July 20 in a fire at Walter J. Conley Elks Lodge No. 1379, Freehold Borough. Born in Waynesboro, Ga., he was a resident of Freehold for more than 50 years. He was caretaker of the Walter J. Conley Elks Lodge, and a former employee at Silvert’s Furniture Store, Freehold. He was a life member and trustee of Walter J. Conley Elks Lodge No. 1379, and enjoyed cooking and serving meals to Lodge members. He is survived by three sons, Darryl Jenkins of Leesburg, Fla., Rodney Jenkins of Freehold, and Daniel Crudup of Lakewood; four daughters, Debbi Jenkins of Long Branch, Michelle Jenkins of Farmingdale and Sheila Crudup and Diparah Dixon-Jenkins, both of Freehold; two brothers, Elike Jenkins and Nathan Wesby, both of Freehold; six sisters, Lena Hoff­man of Philadelphia, Essie Oglesby of English­town, Elizabeth Williams of Farmingdale, Carrie Jenkins of Lakewood, Martha Wiggins of Virginia Beach, Va., and Rose Edwards of Freehold; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

      JAMES E. DUGAN, 79, of Howell, died July 31 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in the Bradevelt section of Marlboro, Mr. Dugan lived there before moving to Howell a year ago. He was a partner in his family business, the F.J. Dugan & Sons Feed, Grain and Coal Co., Marlboro, for 20 years. After his years in the family business, he was employed as an operating engineer for National Lead Co., Perth Amboy, and then retired as chief engineer after 17 years at the W.C.I. Corp., Edison. Mr. Dugan was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater on the Destroyer Escort 343, USS Abercrombie. He was a communicant of St. Gabriel’s Roman Catholic Church, Marlboro. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks No. 1454, Freehold; and local No. 68, Operating Engineers, AFLCIO, West Caldwell. He was predeceased by a son, James Dugan, in 1960, and a daughter, Regina M. Dugan, in 1995. Mr. Dugan is survived by his wife of 51 years, Alice Krystoff Dugan; a son and daughter-in-law, William and Cynthia Dugan of Aberdeen; two daughters and a son-in-law, Deborah A. and Richard Galatro of Oakhurst, and Carolyn Dugan of Holmdel; two brothers, Frank J. Dugan Jr. of Matawan and Jack Dugan of Freehold Township; a sister, Sara Frank of Howell; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Gabriel’s Church, followed by interment at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery, Marlboro.
