Sport Shorts The following are the results of the Nick "the Quick" Werkman All American Action Clinic, held at the McAuliffe School in Jackson on July 23. C.J. Lopez won the hot shot contest with 33 points, followed by Zack Dunski (25), Tyler Count (24), Frank Toth (20) and Frank Kenny (15). Lopez also won the foul-shooting contest, going 10-for-10, followed by Elvis Pendenza (9-10), Kenny (8-10), Count (7-10), and Toth (6-10). Lopez was the clinic MVP. The following are the winners of the Lakewood Recreation Annual Foul-Shooting Basketball Contest, held throughout the Township: The 6-8-year-old age group winners were T.J. Poston (8, Hearthstone Park), Dio Armstrong (8, D’Zio Park), Marwuis Pacer (7, Reverend Clayton Park), Cecilia Melgarejo (8, Spruce Street) and Marques Oliver (8, Clifton Avenue Park). The 9-11 age group winners were Maleck Dorsey (11, Hearthstone), Tal Levy (9, Pine Park), Dejuan Buclew (10, D’Zio), Brett Joyner (11, Reverend Clayton), Devone Green (10, Spruce Street), and Tyler Ford (9, Clifton Avenue). The 12-15 age group winners were Joseph Anderson (14, Hearthstone), Will Copeland (12, Pine Park), Alex Lopez (12, D’Zio Park), Mike Asare (14, Reverend Clayton), Mike LaMontagne (14, Spruce Street) and Kevin Gadson (12, Clifton Avenue). Poston went on to win first-place honors in the 6-8 division, while Joyner and Anderson were the winners in the 9-11 and 12-15 division, respectively. The 9-11 age group winners in the township Hotshot Basketball Shooting contest were Dorsey, Levy, Barlow, Joyner, Margie Perez (11, Spruce Street) and Alfredo Mercado (11, Clifton Avenue. The 12-15 age group winners were Chris Jordan (14, Hearthstone), Jasmine Turner (12, Pine Park), Jordan Seda (12, D’Zio Park), Kareem Reeves (14, Reverend Clayton), Manual Solorzano (12, Spruce Street), and Alex Sanders (12, Clifton Avenue). The Lakewood Recreation Men’s Slow Pitch Softball Fall League will commence on Sept. 2 with all games played under the lights at the Pine Park complex, Monday through Fridays, until Nov. 26. In the Lakewood Township Recreation Playground 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament, Larry D’Zio Park’s team of 12- to 15-year-olds of Anthony Brown, Isiah Tucker, Naomi Casiano, Ashton Alexander and Lizamarie Figueroa downed Reverend Clayton Park’s Johntel Thomas, Walter Donaldson and Lascell Campbell to win the title. In the 9-11 age group, Reverend Clayton Park’s team placed first after defeating Pine Park’s Ahmid Williams, Jerry Copeland, Damon Prince and Mario Fluentes. All winners will receive plaques at the annual All-Sports Day. |
