RAID will host forum
addressing smart growth
RAID will host forum Residents Against Irresponsible Development (RAID) is sponsoring a seminar on "Smart Growth and the Affordable Housing Crisis." RAID is a Howell-based community action group. On Sept. 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the Howell municipal building, Preventorium Road, RAID will sponsor an event that will feature Tim Evans, research director for New Jersey Future, a nonprofit organization. Evans is the author of Realistic Opportunity? The Distribution of Affordable Housing and Jobs in New Jersey. Evans will speak on issues such as affordable housing, farmland preservation and how so-called "smart growth" can help address congested roads and rising taxes. According to a press release from RAID, "Smart growth isn’t just government regulation. It requires informed and caring citizens who recognize and act on what they value. This is a unique opportunity to become involved in improving our communities." Evans will take questions from the public. All are welcome to attend the meeting. Ocean Camera Club marks 31st anniversary The Ocean County Camera Club, sponsored by the Lakewood Community School, is celebrating its 31st anniversary. The club has been recognized by the New Jersey Federation of Camera Clubs as the most outstanding club in the state. The club will meet at the Lakewood High School library, 855 Somerset Ave., every Monday at 8 p.m. Members enjoy weekly meetings, field trips, studio and photographic skills, studio shooting sessions, guest speakers and monthly competitions, with awards in black and white, color slides and prints. Interested adults can join at any meeting to learn and improve skills, master new techniques and exchange ideas. Details: (732) 905-3685. Antique car and truck show set for Sept. 20 The Lakewood Rotary Club and Larson Ford Suzuki are planning an antique car and truck show Sept. 20, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Larson Ford, 1150 Ocean Ave. (Route 88) in Lakewood. There will be six categories on display, from pre-1950 through 1979. Dash plaques and trophies will be presented. A D.J. will provide oldies music. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. Those interested may preregister by calling Bob Eden at (732) 363-8100, ext. 502. In the event of rain, the show will be rescheduled to Oct. 4. Church hosts Ladies Night Out fund-raiser A Ladies Night Out fund-raiser will be held at West Farms United Methodist Church, 153 Casino Drive, Howell, Sept. 19, 7-9 p.m. The cost of $6 per person includes facials, manicures, pedicures and massages, as well as desserts and coffee.
