Sports Shorts The Holbrook Little League in Jackson will hold registration on Jan. 10 and 11 from noon-4 p.m., and Jan. 15 from 6-8 p.m. at the Italian-American at County line Road (Take right turn before Firestone Tire Store, onto Christopher Columbus Boulevard). Age groups are: T-ball — ages 5-6 (players must be age 5 by July 31, 2004); Seniors — 15-16; Farm — 7-8; Majors — 10-12; Minor — 9-11; Juniors — 13-14; and Big League — 17-18. The Big League is a new division and will include traveling. Players fees are: T-ball — $75; all other divisions — $100. The family plan is $250 (three or more players). There is also a Super Raffle Fund-raiser check of $50 required. This is the league’s only fund-raiser. Each family is required to purchase one book of tickets, and can sell them and keep the money it collects. Or you can put your own name on them and return them to the stand throughout the season for the drawing in June. Drawing date is on ticket. A work-bond check (with no date) of $75 is also required. This check should not be dated, and will be returned to you the night or day you fulfill your volunteer obligation to the league to which your child and you are a member. A date will be assigned when you get to the registration table. If you miss your date, the check will be a donation and it will be cashed. If you exchange dates with someone, they will receive your check and you will receive theirs the night you fulfill their duties. If you would like to coach, please fill out a coach’s form at the registrations. All coaches’ applications are subject to background checks and board approval, as per Little League rules and New Jersey state law. Returning players may mail in registrations, before Dec. 31, to above address. Please enclose all three checks. For new players, please be advised that we will require two proofs of residency (i.e., driver’s license/utility bill) at registration, as well as a copy of the child’s birth certificate for age verification. Little League baseball rules require that the league adhere strictly to the boundaries set forth in its charter. No player age 14 and under will be allowed to play at Holbrook Little League if they do not live within the boundaries. The league’s boundaries now include 60 Acres, Flair and Robin Estates. Any Jackson resident may play in the 15- to 18-year-old divisions at Holbrook. The Jackson Junior Midget Small team started its season on July 28. With all their hard work and determination, they placed in three competitions, which won them the opportunity to compete at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., at the Wide World of Sports Invitational competition. The team took third place, proving that all of their hard work and determination was worthwhile. The girls are Taylor Bottomly, Courtney Branen, Morgan Caldwell, Devan Desilva, Rachel Dorsey, Melissa Ericsson, Danielle Geis, Brittany Jacobson, Brianna Jarosz, Ashley Kinder, Allison Larson, Taylor Lopez, Carlie Mayer, Jessica Ricardy, Chelsea Richmond, Carley Sabatini, Kayla Sabatini, Ashley Saffold and Michelle Stone. Jackson Little League will hold registration for spring baseball on Jan. 24 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The location for registration for all three dates will be at the Jackson Little League Field House on Route 527. Once again the league will accept applications for children ages 5-14 years old. (Children must be 5 by July 31, 2004, and can be no older than 14 by July 31, 2004). Proof of age and home address is absolutely required — applicants must live within the boundaries of Jackson Little League. If you have any questions regarding eligibility or boundaries, please call the number below. The costs for these leagues are as follows: T-ball (ages 5 and 6) $75; all other leagues, $100. Parents will also be required to submit a $50 work bond check at time of registration (one work bond check per family); they will receive a work date at that time.
