Business Briefs A check for more than $250,000 was presented to Joanne Carrocino, executive director of Kimball Medical Center, and Caryl Russo, vice president of Kimball Medical Center Foundation, on Dec. 19 at the Auxiliary Council Installation and Check Presentation Holiday Lunch held at the Eagle Ridge Golf Club, Lakewood. Proceeds were raised through pie sales, special events such as fireworks cruises, vendor sales at the hospital and sales at the individual auxiliary units, as well as Kimball’s thrift shops — Lots for Little in Lakewood, The Treasure Chest in Lakewood, and the newest addition, Kimball Closet in Jackson. "A portion of the funds are committed to the Capital Campaign pledge of $1 million from the auxiliary council for the expansion of the Emergency Department and Outpatient Pavilion," said Caryl Russo, vice president of development at Kimball Medical Center. "The balance will be used for a variety of purposes, including the purchase of baby warmers, patient safety items, the "Adapt-a-Toy" workshop, the Balance Center and a new audiometer. In addition to the check presentation, the auxiliary council installed four new officers for 2004: Betty Aptekar, president; Dave Plotnick, vice president; Regina Johnson, secretary; and Jane Maroney, treasurer. Jackson Realty Group, 10 South New Prospect Road, Romeo’s Plaza, Jackson, held its grand opening on Jan. 16. The group is owned by Michael and Magdalena Lam of Jackson. Magdalena "Maggie" Lam is a member of the Ocean County Board of Realtors and was awarded the NJAR 2002 Circle of Excellence Award at the Bronze Level. She is also a senior residential specialist. Jackson Realty Group is a full-service real estate brokerage, serving both Ocean and Monmouth counties. The Lakewood Chamber of Commerce will hold its Industrial Luncheon meeting, Feb. 4 at the Woodlake Country Club, 25 New Hampshire Ave., Lakewood. Guest speaker Lynn Anne Badurina of Mokrynski and Associates will address "What is Spam?" She will discuss the new anti-spam laws and teach tips and tricks to create successful e-mail campaigns and newsletters to generate new business. Century 21 Action Plus Realty has announced that Jay Kline has joined its firm as a sales associate. He will specialize in residential sales in Monmouth and Ocean counties. Kline has been a licensed Real Estate Agent for two years. He is a member of the Monmouth County Association of Realtors and the national Association of Realtors. Kline has been a resident of Howell Township for 37 years and is a member of the Howell Chamber of Commerce, supports the Southard PTA and has been a two-year member of Easter Seals New Jersey as a job coach. Jack Purvis, AIA, of Howell, received the Architect of the Year Award from The American Institute of Architects, New Jersey Chapter, (AIANJ) at a ceremony held recently at Princeton University. Purvis is the principal of a firm that bears his name in Allenwood. An active member of AIANJ, Purvis served as president of AIA Jersey Shore in 2002. While in office, he helped create a chapter scholarship fund and organized a number of fund-raisers to benefit the scholarship. He is also an involved community member. He presented at a workshop at the New Jersey Polio Network annual conference and wrote articles for the organization’s newsletter about universal design and accessibility issues. Purvis is a member of the Howell Lions Club and served for one year on the Board of Directors. He coached girls recreational basketball for five years and spent two years on the Howell Township Farmland Preservation Committee. The Architect of the Year award is presented to an individual recognized as having made a major accomplishment in the field of architecture and who has distinguished himself or herself both professionally and personally. The award is based on both professional and technical accomplishments. The Service Award sponsors included: Thomas J. New Jersey American Water has announced the completion of a new water transmission main benefiting customers in Howell and Lakewood townships. The two phase project began last spring along County Line and Ridge roads in Lakewood. Final paving of roads disturbed during the first phase was completed in November. The second phase began in December along Ramtown-Greenville and Newton’s Corner roads in Howell. This phase, which involved the installation of 9,000 feet of main, was completed in four weeks time. Final paving of roads disturbed during the second phase will occur in the upcoming summer. In total, over 20,000 feet of 16-inch main was placed in the ground. |
