Veterans seek support for Buddy Poppy drive Members of the Howell Memorial Post 9691 Veterans of Foreign Wars and its Ladies Auxiliary will be distributing our Buddy Poppy throughout the township during the month of May. The VFW Buddy Poppy is assembled by disabled and hospitalized veterans. Those assembling the poppies are paid for their work, which helps to enable them to purchase personal items. Other benefits of assembling the poppies are therapy programs to provide exercise for fingers and hands crippled by wounds and as rehabilitation for psychiatric patients. All profits are used to support veterans programs, including morale activities of veterans in hospitals and "Operation Uplink" — prepaid telephone cards to active servicemen and servicewomen abroad and at home. We would like to express our appreciation to Drug-Fair, Pathmark, Stop and Shop, Stop and Bag (Farmingdale) and Wal-Mart for their cooperation in our poppy drive. We thank everyone for their participation in the VFW Buddy Poppy Drive and ask that you wear and display your poppy. Robert K. Bischoff Commander Howell VFW Post 9691 Toms River |
