Sports Shorts Ten-year-old Taylor Samuel, Jackson, was very successful competing for Devlin Gymnastics of Wall at the N.J. State Championships in Demarest the weekend of April 24. Samuel, a Level 4 gymnast, took fourth on the vault, sixth on the beam and 14th on the bars en route to a 12th-place finish in the all-around. Her efforts helped Devlin finish sixth out of 27 teams. New Egypt Youth Soccer is forming competitive travel soccer teams for the following age groups: Boys U9 (A. Marabuto, (732) 758-0850); Boys U13 (N. Pinarligil, (732) 758-9142); Girls U9 (G. Rette, (732) 758-3597); Girls U10 (J. Plummer, (732) 758-6515); and Girls U11 (B. Marabuto, (732) 758-0850). Tryouts will be held June 5 at 2 p.m. at the elementary school fields. Rain date is June 6 at 2 p.m. Boys, U13 only, are having additional tryouts on May 19, 21, 26 and 28 at 6 p.m. Please contact coaches above for more information. New Egypt Youth Soccer Registration for boys and girls from age 4, by Aug. 1, through eighth grade will take place today from 4-7 p.m. at New Egypt High School, and on May 8 from 9 a.m.-noon at the New Egypt Recreation Building. The cost is $60 for one child, $110 for two children and $135 family maximum. There will be no fund-raisers. After a successful season last year, grades third-eighth again will compete in the Midlands Recreation Travel League on Saturdays. Pre-K through second grade will play on Sundays. Anyone interested in obtaining their "F" license, please contact Anthony or Gary to register. Classes will be held on June 4 and 5. The Jackson Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club of Jackson’s annual softball game will be played on May 16 at 1 p.m. at Pine Park on County Line Road in Lakewood. The cost to attend and to take part in the picnic is $25 for adults and $20 for children. Kids age 5 and younger are free. A portion of the proceeds will be directed to the winner’s charity of choice. The Manchester Women’s Softball League is forming now and needs players and teams.
