JACKSON — A Battle of the Bands concert turned violent on June 24 when two juveniles were assaulted during a strong-arm robbery of the hall where the concert was being held.

According to a press release from the Jackson Police Department, police were called at 9:35 p.m. and notified of a robbery at the Amvets hall at 1290 Route 571.

The 16-year-old boy from Englishtown who called police said he was one of the organizers of the event. He told police that during the event an unknown white male entered the hall, grabbed a cash box and ran out the door. Police said the amount of money in the cash box was undetermined.

The 16-year-old boy and his brother attempted to stop the suspect from leaving the premises with the cash box, according to police.

Police did not provide an age for the second juvenile.

Police said the boys were assaulted in the parking lot of the Amvets facility. The 16-year-old boy was kicked and a second suspect tackled his brother. Both boys sustained minor abrasions and lacerations, but did not require first aid treatment, according to police.

The first suspect — the one who took the cash box — is described as a white male, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, with brown hair. He was wearing blue jeans and had a red and black tattoo on his left back and shoulder blade. Police said the suspect was wearing a black T-shirt around the lower portion of his face.

There was no description of the second suspect, who participated in the parking lot assault.

After the two suspects assaulted the juveniles in the parking lot, they entered a red, four-door Dodge that was occupied by at least one other suspect. There was no description of the third suspect.

The Dodge was last seen traveling east on Route 571 toward Manchester. A countywide roadblock search plan was activated, but the suspects were not located.

Jackson police are asking anyone with information about this incident to call Detective Michael Cunningham at (732) 833-3008.
