Georgian Court concert band holiday show Dec. 6
Georgian Court University’s (GCU) Christmas Concert, is slated for Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Casino Building at 900 Lakewood Ave., Lakewood.
The University Concert Band, a 55-piece symphonic band which consists of GCU students, alumni and professional community musicians from all over New Jersey, will perform a variety of holiday selections.
Traditional holiday carols like “Joy to the World” and “Silent Night”, and big band jazz arrangements of “Winter Wonderland” and “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” as well as Hanukah and Russian Christmas music will be featured.
Conductor Wilbur Witteman, director of bands and director of jazz studies at GCU, has been conducting the concert band since 1990. He has conducted and performed on trumpet with world-famous musicians and orchestras such as Dizzy Gillespie, Glenn Miller, Shari Lewis, Jimmy Dorcey and Jose Feliciano. He has been arranging and coordinating concert series and jazz festivals for more than 20 years. He also runs a summer music camp in Lakewood for musicians of all ages, and was recently included in “Who’s Who among American Music Teachers.”
