• Free children’s workshop, May 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., hosted by Jackson Elks, 1059 E. Veterans Highway, Jackson. Children between the ages of 8 and 12 will build a small birdhouse for Mother’s Day. A parent or guardian must stay and help. Participants should bring a hammer. • Gift auction May 1 to help the family of John Reilly, a 40-year-old Jackson man who recently died of cancer and left a wife and two young children. Held at the Jackson Pop Warner fieldhouse on Man-hattan Street, the donated items will be auctioned off and all proceeds will be given directly to the Reilly family. Donations and/or contributions of items to be auctioned are being accepted. Doors open at 1 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $13 at the door. • An art show and auction to benefit the Jackson Memorial High School lacrosse club, May 14 at 7 p.m. at the high school. Tickets are $10 each and include door prizes, hors d’oeuvres and refreshments. All are welcome. Opening bids will be accepted for 50 percent less than gallery prices.
