      Lakewood Chamber of Commerce golf outing

    • The Lakewood Chamber of Commerce will sponsor its 12th annual golf outing June 13 at the Suneagles Golf Course in Fort Monmouth. The cost per golfer is $195, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the scholarship fund and mentoring program at Lakewood High School. Sponsorship opportunities are still available.       Jackson Mother’s Fair

      The Jackson Women of Today will sponsor its annual “Mother’s Fair” June 11 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The rain date is June 12. The event will take place at the Italian American Club off County Line Road in Jackson. Admission for visitors is $1, with proceeds benefiting Parents of Autistic Children and other children’s charities.

      The Jackson Women of Today, a nonprofit organization, is dedicated to community service and operates the Jackson Food Pantry. The “Mother’s Fair” has become an annual event because it has been so well received in past years by parents seeking to recycle children’s items and those who wish to purchase gently used items at reasonable prices.

      Those interested in becoming a vendor may contact Marsha Wydra at (732) 364-0799 or send their name, address and telephone number with a $20 check payable to The Jackson Women of Today at P.O. Box 1042, Jackson 08527. All vendors will be sent additional information as soon as their check is received.

      Fishing derby open

      to Howell residents

      The Howell Recreation Department will host a fishing derby June 4 at Echo Lake Park on Maxim-Southard Road from 9 to 11 a.m. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. on the day of the event. The program is free to all Howell Township residents ages 5-14.

      ‘Counselor in Training’

      program at Howell Rec

      The Howell Recreation Department is accepting registrations for two “Counselor in Training” sessions for residents ages 14 and 15 who plan to seek summer camp work.

      The two-week sessions will run Monday through Friday, July 11-22, at Howell Middle School South, and July 25 through Aug. 5 at Howell Middle School North.

      The cost for the program is $25, with registration on a first-come, first-served basis until June 3. Call (732) 938-4500, ext. 2501 to register.

      Dance Den seeks alumni

      for anniversary party

      Mobile office events

      open to all veterans

      The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Mobile Service Office will be at Wal-Mart, 4900 Route 9, Howell, June 2 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. All veterans and their families are invited to visit the mobile office to learn more about rights and benefits that veterans are entitled to.

      A trained DAV national service officer will be available to personally provide counseling and claim-filing assistance free of charge.

      Elks offer proper disposal

      for worn American flags

      New Egypt Elks Lodge 2457 will sponsor a special “flag retirement” in order to properly dispose of old American flags with respect. Flags should be neatly folded and dropped off any weekend at the lodge, 105 Lakewood Road, Plumsted. The Elks will arrange for its proper disposal. Details: (732) 758-8700.

      summer camp registration

      Jackson Township summer camp registration will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 4 at Jackson Memorial High School’s Clayton Building, 101 Don Connor Blvd. The camp is open to Jackson residents who have completed any grade from kindergarten through eighth. The fee is $90 per child, and proof of age or grade is required when registering. Details: (732) 928-1200, ext. 255.

      Boxing event raises funds for children’s charities

      The Optimist Club of Jackson will host a major fund-raiser to support its Childhood Charities Campaign (children with cancer and autism). The event, an amateur Olympic-style boxing event, sanctioned by the New Jersey Association of USA Boxing, will be held at Convention Hall on Ocean Avenue in Asbury Park.

      General admission tickets are available for $20 per seat. The cost for ringside tables of 10, which come with a buffet dinner, is $500. The evening will also include a silent auction featuring a variety of sports memorabilia.       Prevention and treatment of sports injuries June 4

      Each year, more than 3.5 million children under the age of 14 suffer sports injuries serious enough to require medical treatment. To help parents learn more, Kimball Medical Center will present, “Prevention and Treatment of Common Sports Injuries,” on Saturday, June 4 from 10 a.m. to noon in the hospital’s Schulman Conference Center, 600 River Ave. (Route 9) in Lakewood.

      Andrew Harrison, M.D., a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who is fellowship trained in sports medicine, will present the program. Dr. Harrison is the Team Physician for the Lakewood BlueClaws and specializes in injuries of the knee, shoulder, elbow and ankle.

      Elks to Hold Flag Day Services June 12

      New Egypt Elks Lodge No. 2457 host the annual Flag Day Services June 12 at William Doyle Veterans Cemetery on Provinceline Road, in Arneytown, at 11 a.m. New Egypt lodge will be joined by other lodges in the southwest district and the general public is invited to attend the ceremony.       Elks to hold ninth annual

      fishing tournament

      The ninth annual Luby Britt Memorial Fishing Tournament, sponsored by the New Egypt Elks Youth Activities Committee, will be held June 26 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Fin Fur and Feather Club on Millers Mill Road and Route 526 in the Red Valley section in New Egypt. All children ages 1 to 13 are invited to participate.
