The Lakewood Piners Toastmasters Club installed its new officers for the Toastmasters year 2005-06 at a ceremony held June 28. The following people were installed: June Cottrell-Miller, president; Paula Bruno, educational vice president; William DeMasi, vice president of membership; Art Aikin, vice president of public relations; Dennis Cairns, secretary; Steven Fraundorfer, treasurer; and Ferdinand Okose, sergeant-at-arms. Affiliated with Toastmasters International and one of more than 9,000 Toastmasters clubs throughout the world, the group is devoted to the improvement of individual communication and leadership skills. Members are given the opportunity to learn and practice techniques of effective public speaking and gain valuable leadership experience. The club meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. at the Lakewood Municipal Building, 231 Third St. Visitors are welcome.
First United Methodist Church peach festival
First United Methodist Church, 8 Main St., Farmingdale, will host its annual Peach Festival Aug. 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. Each year church members pick peaches the Saturday morning prior to the festival, prepare them on Sunday afternoon, and serve them fresh to visitors Sunday evening. Proceeds from the event benefits the church’s college scholarship fund established in 1992. All are welcome to attend. Details: (732) 938-4100.
Ballroom Dancing
for couples in Howell
The Howell Township Recreation Department, 251 Preventorium Road, is accepting registration for Ballroom Dancing for adult couples.
The program will run for six weeks on Fridays from Aug. 19 until Sept. 23. The fee is $50 for Howell township residents.
The recreation building is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Monday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Allentown High School class of 1985 reunion
Allentown High School Class of 1985 will have a 20th reunion celebration Oct. 28 from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at Spano’s at The White Sands in Point Pleasant.

End of Summer Fair set for Aug. 24-28 in Howell
The Optimist Club of Howell and the Howell Chamber of Commerce invite families to attend the seventh annual End of Summer Fair to be held Aug. 24-28 at the Howell Wal-Mart.
The event will feature carnival rides and midway located in the parking lot, Wednesday and Thursday from 5 to 11 p.m.; Friday, 3-11 p.m.; Saturday 2-11 p.m.; and Sunday 2-10 p.m.
The midway will be provided by Sunshine Amusements, with more rides and games than in previous years. Greater Media radio stations WRAT 95.9 and Oldies 100.1 WJRZ will broadcast live from the carnival with lots of prizes and giveaways for the those in attendance.
Buster from the Lakewood BlueClaws will be on hand to greet the children, and the Howell Rebellettes will perform.
Members of the Optimist Club of Howell and the Howell Chamber of Commerce jointly sponsor this event and will be manning the ticket booths and game booths.
Proceeds from the carnival will benefit the Optimists’ activities for the children of Howell.
The chamber funds scholarships for deserving high school seniors from the proceeds of this event.
Advance sale discount tickets are on sale through Aug. 23 with savings of 50 percent on rides.

Free ‘Concert Under the Stars’ Aug. 5 in Jackson
A free open air concert, presented by the Jackson Township Department of Recreation, will take place Aug. 5 at John F. Johnson Jr. Memorial Park, Cooks Bridge Road and Manhattan Street.
The event will feature music by La Fuerza Positiva, food vendors, and facilities for the handicapped.
The park opens at 6:30 p.m. Bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on.

Enjoy ‘A Night at the 500 Club’ in Jackson
“A Night at the 500 Club” will be presented at noon Aug. 19 at The Melvin Cottrell Center, 45 Don Connor Blvd., Jackson. The show is a musical revue taking attendees back in time. Entertainers Joey Arminio and “The Family” deliver an arsenal of songs and entertainment reminiscent of “the good old days,” paying tribute to some of the legendary Italian crooners like Dean Martin and Jerry Vale in addition to Buddy Holly, Connie Francis and various girl groups and “teen idols.” The show also includes renditions of husband and wife comedy teams and scenes from Broadway shows.
