Jackson library schedules programs for September

JACKSON — The Jackson Branch of the Ocean County Library, 2 Jackson Drive, offers many programs and events geared toward adults, children and teens throughout the year. All programs are free and open to the public, however, registration is necessary. A “Meet the Mayor” session will be held Sept. 1 at 6 p.m. Jackson residents are invited to address their concerns to Mayor Michael Broderick.

This month’s Friends of the Library meeting will take place Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. at the library. All are welcome to attend.

• Sept. 6, 7 p.m., — Evening Book Dis-cussion about “Poisonwood,” by Barbara Kingsolver.

• Sept. 8, 7 p.m. — Baseball Trivia Tournament for teens in grades 8-12. Please register.

• Sept. 8, 7 p.m. — Teen Advisory Board Meeting. For teens in grades 7-12.

• Sept. 10, 2 p.m., — “Jersey Devil” with Angus Gillespie. A family event sponsored by the Horizons Speakers Bureau of the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Human-ities.

• Sept. 12, 6:45 p.m. — Learn the basics of starting a small business.”

• Sept. 12, 19, and 26, 7 p.m. — English conversation group for people learning English.

• Sept. 13, 1 p.m. — Afternoon Book Discussion about “Sudden Change of Heart,” by Barbara Taylor Bradford.

• Sept. 13, 7 p.m. - Origami Interest Group. For children in grades 5 through adult.

• Sept. 14, noon - Free CentraState Blood Pressure and Glucose Screening. No appointment is necessary but attendees must fast for five to eight hours before the glucose screening.

• Sept. 15, 3 p.m. — Loretta L. Collins, author talk and book signing.

• Sept. 15, 7 p.m. — College Funding and Financial Assistance programs.

• Sept. 19, 6:30 p.m., — Knitting Club.

• Sept. 21, 7 p.m. — “It’s Alive,” horror writing contest awards reception.

• Sept. 22, 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., — Green Thumb Garden Club Annual Plant Swap.

• Sept. 26, 7 p.m., — Teen Advisory Executive Board Meeting.

• Sept. 28, 7 p.m., — “From Paper Dolls to Papel Picado,” paper cutting around the world. Family event in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month.

• Sept. 29, 7 p.m., — Training for Success.

This month’s foyer case display features Indian artifacts courtesy of George Morningstern.

This month’s displays are “Shells,” by Judy Roberts, and “Paint and Print: An Exhibit of Photographs and Paintings,” by Jessica Lynch and Meagan Toohey.

The library is open Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
