The Lakewood BlueClaws will host the fourth annual Coaches Clinic of Feb. 4 at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood. Hitting, fielding, pitching, base running and injury prevention will be emphasized by this year’s class of instructors.

The clinic is designed for all area baseball coaches, from Little League to high school levels. Local product and former major league pitcher Mark Leiter, of Toms River, will be joined by Yankees Double-A hitting coach Ty Hawkins, of Manasquan, and 2005 BlueClaws infielder Mike Dzurilla. The trio will lead individual sessions on the fundamentals of the game and be able to take questions. Registration is only $35. All participants must be preregistered.

Howell Soccer Club is now accepting registrations for recreational soccer for the spring season. The club will be holding in-person registration on Jan. 6 at the Oak Glen Snack Stand from 6-8:30 p.m. You can also pick up a form at the Howell Recreation Center or the Howell Public Library or download a form by visiting www.howellsoccerclub.com and mailing it to Howell Soccer Club, P.O. Box 222, Howell, NJ 07731. Early-bird registration is until Jan. 7. The fee is $40 for one child, $75 for two children, and $105 for a family. For registrations postmarked after Jan. 7, the fee is $50 for one child, $85 for two children, and $115 for a family. No mail will be accepted after Feb. 18. New Jersey’s newest and fasted growing softball organization, ISA of New Jersey, is looking for individuals for its softball umpiring program. Clinics will be offered in Central New Jersey beginning in January. Participants will be trained in all styles of softball, tested and ready to work ISA league or tournament games beginning April 2006. ASA, NSA and Federation members welcome.
