The New Egypt sixth grade boys travel team swept the Waretown Athletic Associations 10th annual Shootout. New Egypt competed against teams from Waretown, Barnegat, Berkeley, Brick and Lacy townships.
The final game was a very competitive game with New Egypt taking the win from Barnegat. New Egypt's Jamel Smith was also the recipient of the tournament MVP award.
The players are Anthony Tucker, Andrew Winkowski, Vinnie Sica, Chris Jones, Bradley Ingenbrandt, Tyler Dietrich, Jacob Lawrence, Jamel Smith and Tyler Barnes. The coaches are Earl Meroney and Dave Jones.
New Egypt High School is pleased to announce that senior Brittany Kennedy has signed her letter of intent to Rider University, a Division I program, to continue her field hockey career. Kennedy was instrumental in the Warriors' 21-1 record and first-ever state championship. She was a First Team All-State selection by the Associated Press.
On Feb. 12, the NJ Elks State Hoop Shoot was held at Woodbridge High School Michael Rotando, sponsored by Howell No. 2515, placed first in the boys 12-13 age group, and will now represent New Jersey at the Regional Hoop Shoot contest in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., this weekend. Rotando is a seventh-grader at Howell Middle School South. He is a four-time winner for Howell No. 2515, a two-time District winner, and plays for the Central Jersey hawks AAU team, the Howell Hawks and the Howell Huskies Middle School team.
The Princeton Youth Hockey Association (PYHA) is holding tryouts for the 2006 travel season. The season starts around Sept. 1, and registration is open to players whose birth years are between 1988 and 2001. Tryouts will be held April 6 and 11 at the historic Baker Rink on the Princeton University Campus. They offer first-rate coaches and a competitive program that focuses on player development while promoting team building skills.
