Brianna Acacia, a 7-year-old gymnast, and Carli Fargione, an 8-year-old gymnast, from Jackson, competed in the New Jersey State Sectional gymnastics meet on April 2 at Envision Gymnastics, Eastampton. The girls compete on the Level 5 USAG gymnastics team at Jonas Gymnastics Academy, Morganville. Brianna came in second place on the vault with a score of 9.075; she came in third place on the floor exercise with a score of 9.225; she came in fourth place on the uneven bars with a score of 8.95; and she scored of 8.0 on the balance beam en route to a second-place finish in the all-around competition in the 7-8-age category. Her all-around score of 35.25 qualifies her to compete in the level 5 state championship meet.

Carli came in sixth place on the balance beam with a score of 8.3 and sixth place on vault with a score of 8.6. She scored 7.95 on the uneven bars and 8.425 on the floor exercise en route to a eighth-place finish in the all-around competition in the 7-8-age category. Her all-around score of 32.975 qualifies her to compete in the level 5 state championship meet, which will be held at Hendersons Gymnastics, Edison, on April 22-23.

Georgian Court University's 11th annual Golf Classic will be held April 24 at the Manasquan River Golf Club in Brielle. The day's itinerary begins with registration at 10 a.m. followed by brunch, and the shotgun start at noon. For those first-time golfers, golf clinic sessions begin at 12:30 p.m. and conclude with the 3 p.m. open practice. An open-bar cocktail reception begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by a gourmet buffet dinner with the awards presentation at 6:30 p.m. Participants will enjoy a live auction and raffle drawing for a $10,000 custom vacation to Ireland. Choose from several themed packages including a unique golf getaway.

Participants in the tournament will receive a microfiber full-zip golf vest in appreciation of their support. Sponsorship costs include greens fees, brunch, an hour of driving range time, golf cart use, cocktail reception, and buffet dinner. Sponsorships start at $250 and go up to $10,000.

The proceeds from the event will benefit the students of Georgian Court University by keeping tuition affordable so that a college education may be a reality for many. Rain date is May 1. For more information, call GCU's Office of Annual Giving at (732) 987-2292.

The Cape May County Football League seeks additional teams from the Ocean-Monmouth-Middlesex County area for a fall Northern Division. This is a long-established tackle football league for grades one-eight, and includes both private and public middle school teams. CMCJFL does not have any weight restrictions. Children, both big and small, can play. Minimum roster sizes are very flexible. Both existing and start-up programs are welcome. Gymnasts from the Wilton Academy of Gymnastics competed at the USA Gymnastics Level 5 Sectional held at Envision Gymnastics on April 2. In Level 5, 9-years-olds competition, Shani Weiss took third in the all-around (36.55), placing first on bars (9.55), and seventh on vault (8.8), beam (8.95) and floor (9.25). Aliyah Slocum took 10th in the AA (34.6), placing fourth on the vault (9.1) and eighth on the floor (9.15). Tori Wilton was 13th in the AA (33.95) after placing fifth on the floor (9.35).

In Level 5, 10-year-old action, Julia Fronc was 10th in the AA (35.35), placing seventh on the beam (9.15), eighth on the floor (9.125) and 12th on the bars (8.775). Jessica Cataldo was 18th in the AA (34.15) after taking 11th on the beam (8.75), while Alex Havens was 20th in the AA (33.1).
