Donations of DVDs sought for troops
District 30 legislators Sen. Robert Singer and assemblymen Joseph Malone and Ronald Dancer have announced that their legislative offices will be participating in the Operation DVD program. Operation DVD is an appeal to constituents to donate new or used movie DVDs and music CDs, which will then be shipped to American troops overseas. Operation DVD is an official program of AMVETS (American Veterans), an organization in existence for more than 60 years. The legislators said they are proud to stand behind a program that will help the men and women who are coping with the stress of missions and alleviate some of the loneliness associated with being away from home. "This effort will provide an important component of relief for soldiers abroad, where safe recreation is so limited," the legislators said. "Even something as small as a CD can send a strong message to boost morale." Libraries of DVDs will be established at all bases in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the nationwide goal is to obtain one million DVDs for the troops, according to a press release. Singer, Malone and Dancer are asking their constituents to donate whatever DVDs they can to provide safe entertainment for the troops in war zones. The DVDs and CDs can be dropped off at a District 30 Legislative office: 2110 West County Line Road, Jackson, or 311 Farnsworth Avenue in Bordentown.
