Coin club will host coin show, exhibit

The Ocean County Coin Club will conduct its 36th anniversary coin show and exhibit at the Laurelton firehouse, Route 88 west, Brick Township, on Sept. 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

According to club show director Dennis Berube, the show will feature 30 dealers, 10 exhibits and free junior treasure hunts throughout the day. Last year's show drew more than 350 collectors and visitors.

Veteran coin collectors and novices will have the opportunity to explore the benefits associated with coin collecting as they peruse 30 tables of coins, paper money, tokens and medals. Visitors will also be able to check the values of coins and paper money they have collected over the years. Question-and-answer sessions will be conducted throughout the show.

Jersey Shore Audubon at Pennsylvania Museum

The Jersey Shore Audubon Society will visit the University of Pennsylvania Museum in Philadelphia, Nov. 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. This is a working museum on archaeology and anthropology.

The trip will included a guided tour of the Canaan and Israel exhibit covering items dating from 3000 to 500 B.C. which was excavated from Jordan, Lebanon and Israel. After that visitors will be allowed to explore the museum on their own. Lunch will be on your own in the museum's cafeteria-style restaurant.

Tai Chi Chuan classes

The Ocean County Parks and Recreation Department conducts Tai Chi Chuan classes at the Ocean County Park, Beach Complex, Lakewood.

The Yang Style Short Form will be taught from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays, Sept. 20- Nov. 8. The fee is $32 per person.

Audubon trip to Eastern State Penitentiary

The Jersey Shore Audubon Society will conduct a bus trip to the Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia Oct. 20, for a 90-minute guided tour of the facilities. The cost to attend is $45 per person, which includes admission, the guided tour, and bus transportation. An audio tour can also be rented to those who wish to take a self-guided tour after lunch. Attendees should bring their own picnic lunch to enjoy on the grounds after the guided tour.

Jersey Shore Audubon Society trip to Newark

The Jersey Shore Audubon Society will visit Newark Dec. 8, to view some of the old churches. Some churches included will be St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, St. Lucy's Roman Catholic Church and a Polish Catholic Church which has been renovated to become and home an studio for a local artist, Emilio A. Serio. Lunch will be at Tony CaCanecas Restaurant in the ironbound section of the city. The cost for the trip is $75 per person. Women's Club to host membership open house

The Howell Women's Club will host its annual open house membership tea Sept. 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the Taunton School library, Taunton Drive, Howell. Women from Howell and surrounding areas are welcome. The meeting will include refreshments and a gift auction.

The Howell Women's Club is a part of the General Federation of Women's Clubs. Named service organization of the year 2006 by the Howell Chamber of Commerce, it is comprised of a diverse group of women who work together to improve the community through various fundraising efforts. The proceeds are then donated to charitable organizations. The club also offers social events for members' families.

Jackson Civic Chorus welcomes new members

The Jackson Civic Chorus invites residents of Jackson and surrounding communities who are interested in participating in the chorus to attend open auditions Sept. 12, or Sept. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at the Jackson United Methodist Church, 68 Bennetts Mills Road, Jackson.

The Jackson Civic Chorus is a community chorus sponsored by the Jackson Council for the Arts. Under the direction of Margaret Ambrus Eisenschmied, the chorus welcomes diversity of ages and musical experience. The chorus rehearses on Tuesdays from 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Jackson United Methodist Church.

Jackson Women of Today auction and luncheon

The Jackson Women of Today will present Harvest of Gifts, the organization's annual gift auction and luncheon, Oct. 29, beginning at noon at Woodlake Country Club in Lakewood. The proceeds of this year's auction will enable the Jackson Women of Today continue its tradition of providing scholarships, aiding families in need and running the Jackson Food Pantry.

Admission to the Harvest of Gifts will be $34. and include five raffle tickets, a buffet luncheon and a chance to win door prizes. A cash bar will also be available. Gifts include home décor items, small appliances, electronics, china, crystal, fine jewelry and more. A 50/50 raffle will also be held during the course of the afternoon. Walking club to begin

at Ocean County Park

The Ocean County Department of Parks and Recreation will conduct a walking club beginning at 10 a.m. Sept. 22 through Oct. 13 at Ocean County Park, Route 88, Lakewood. The fee is $6 per person for the season. The program is designed for those looking for some exercise and to meet other people. The Jersey Shore Audubon Society has planned a trip to visit the Philadelphia Zoo Sept. 22, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost of this trip is $45 per person, which includes admission into the zoo and transportation.
