Biagia Pace
Mrs. Pace, 85, of Howell, died Jan. 12, 2007, at CareOne at East Brunswick. Born in Cosmiso, Italy, she came to the U.S. in 1954 and had lived in Syracuse before moving to Howell in 1993. Mrs. Pace was a homemaker. She was predeceased by her husband, Giuseppe, in 1996. Surviving are two sons, Salvatore J. Pace of Newark, Del. and Gianfranco R. Pace of Freehold; a sister, Concetta of Argentina; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township. A Mass was offered at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, Freehold Township, followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan.
George Baumann
George B. Baumann, 89 of Howell, died Jan. 11, 2007, at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, New York City. Mr. Baumann was born in Elizabeth and had lived in Freehold Township before moving to Howell 13 years ago. Prior to retiring in 1995, he was an operations manager with the Schering-Plough pharmaceutical company, Kenilworth, for 37 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a graduate of Rutgers University, New Brunswick. Mr. Baumann was a member of the Fulton Boys and a former member of the Knights of Columbus, Elizabeth. He was predeceased by his wife, Letty-An, in 1996. Surviving are two sons, George Baumann of Freehold Township and John Baumann of Pensicola, Fla.; two daughters, Karen Baumann of Myrtle Beach, N.C., and Mary Baumann of East Windsor; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at St. Catherine of Siena Chapel, Farmingdale, followed by entombment at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River. The Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, was in charge of arrangements.
Tania Svinareff
Mrs. Svinareff, 91, of Wall Township died Jan. 10, 2007, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Odessa, Russia, she came to the U.S. in 1923 and settled in New York before moving to Howell in 1944. She had resided in Wall Township for the past six years. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Svinareff was predeceased by her husband, Dimitri M. Svinareff, in 2004. Surviving are three sons, Gregory Burela of Freehold, Michael Austin of Wall Township, and James Austin of Adamstown, Pa.; a daughter, Helen Aserdziev of Howell, a brother, Nicholas Stoiaken of Minneapolis; 19 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township. Interment was private at St. Vladimir's Cemetery, Jackson.
Hannah M. McFadden Merrihew
Mrs. Merrihew, 73, of Brick, died Jan. 3, 2007, at Ocean Medical Center, Brick. Born in Jersey City, she had lived in Bayonne and Freehold Township before moving to Brick in 1978. Prior to retiring in 1993, she was a cashier for Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, for 15 years. Mrs. Merrihew was predeceased by her husband, Roy, in 1983. Surviving are three daughters, Tara Leonard of Brick, Joyce Schultz of Browns Mills and Hannah Hall of Point Pleasant; a brother, Charles McFadden of Plumsted; two sisters, Mary Ellen Barry of Doylestown, Pa., and Sister Charles Annice of Old Bridge; 17 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. A Mass was celebrated at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Old Bridge. Cremation was private, with the Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, Old Bridge, in charge of arrangements.
William J. "Joe" Law
Mr. Law, 77, of Salt Springs, Fla., died Jan. 1, 2007, in Ocala, Fla., after battling cancer. Born and raised in Meigs, Ga., he had resided in Edison before retiring to Salt Springs in the mid-1980s. Earlier in his life, following his military service in the U.S. Navy, he had lived in Jersey City, where he got married. Mr. Law had been employed as a tool and die maker for Westinghouse Corp. in Jersey City. He worked several part-time jobs as well, which included driving for the George Dapper Bus Co. in the Iselin section of Woodbridge. He dedicated a lot of time to the North Edison Little League, coaching kids for more than 20 years and helping build the town's senior Little League field by hand. In addition, he served the North Edison Shamrocks Pop Warner football league in various capacities, including president. He loved fishing at the Jersey Shore and spending time at the Long Branch fishing pier. He also enjoyed gardening, bowling, playing golf, and fixing and creating things. After retiring to Florida, Mr. Law became a handyman, a garbage man and a driver for his retirement village. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Chuck Palermo. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Johanna Castell Law; three sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Ellen Law of Illinois, Bill and Ginny Law of Rhode Island, and Scott and Karen Law of Jackson; two daughters and a son-in-law, Debbie and Charlie Ryan of Florida and Donna Palermo of Iselin; three sisters, Elaine, Mildred and Lillian; a granddaughter, Tara Palermo; and a step-grandson, T.J. Conway. A small family memorial service was held in Florida.
