JACKSON - Jackson High School girls swim coach Janet Carvin could not have been happier with her team's performance at the Ocean County Championships last weekend. The Lady Jaguars surprised a lot of people, including Carvin, by finishing in eighth place over with a total of 110 points. More ... JACKSON - With four teams jockeying throughout the duration of the meet, the Ocean County Boys Championships resembled more of a horse race than a swim meet. Teams from Southern, Toms River North, Toms River South and Jackson high schools jockeyed for position all night. More ... A berth in this weekend's Shore Conference Tournament final would be a first for the Howell High School wrestling program. The Rebels have been to the semifinals before, but they've never been in the Saturday finals. A finals berth, and perhaps a win, would be a sure sign that the 2006-07 Rebels are on their way to being the finest team in school history. More ... Paul Cisek has become a film critic.Since surgery (on Jan. 7) has kept him away from games and practices, he has gotten a different look at his Brookdale Community College men's basketball team. The New Egypt High School football team announces that senior all-conference center Dom Valdner (6-5, 270 pounds) has committed to play football for Division 1AA Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. A first-team, all-academic selection, he chose Cornell over Princeton and Columbia. Dom gave his commitment to head coach Jim Knowles on his official visit Sunday. More ... |
