      Attention must be paid to youth violence
            Christine Grimaldi's article ("Parents' Support Enlisted in Battle Against Gangs," Tri-Town News, Jan. 18, 2007) brought to light an important and growing issue of concern to Jackson residents. Gangs, and more importantly, the youth violence that results from the influence of gang culture, are public health issues that affect everyone in the community.

      Writer seeks support for proposed horse law
            Anyone who has ever loved a pet or admired a beautiful animal mourned the loss of Kentucky Derby champion Barbaro, who lost his valiant battle on Jan. 29. But other horses are still suffering and they don't have loving owners to watch over them. More than 100,000 are hauled across the country each year and cruelly slaughtered for human consumption overseas.

      Lack of application shows farmers no respect
            I have just come home from the tax assessor's office in search of farm assessment application forms unsuccessfully. I was flabbergasted to hear that they do not have any and will not have any until June. I was shocked to think that they would not have one copy left over that they could at least make a copy for me.

      Teens need instruction and practice when gaining a driver's license
      "Please don't become a member of the grieving parents club. Do everything you can to positively enforce safe driving with your teen."
            This is in response to "Review of State's Gradu-ated Driver License Program is Needed" (Tri-Town News, Letters to the Editor, Jan. 25, 2007). New Jersey signed into law the Graduated Driver's License (GDL) program which I initiated through Sen. Robert Singer (R-Ocean) after the death of my daughter in 1993.
