      Life of noted lyricist topic of March 7 talk
            Join the Plumsted library in honoring Women's History Month on March 7 at 6:30 p.m. Noted musician and lecturer Fred Miller will sing and discuss the life and work of lyricist Dorothy Fields, an extraordinary woman who from the 1920s to the 1970s wrote some of the most enduring lyrics in the American songbook.

      Psychology majors earn research grants
            Monmouth University, West Long Branch, announced that psychology majors Natalie Nardone, of Freehold, and Alanna Joy Raines, of Howell, have been awarded undergraduate research grants from the national honor society of psychology, Psi Chi. They both are conducting their research under the supervision of Dr. Gary Lewandowski, assistant professor of psychology.

            Free income tax assistance will be provided at the Lakewood Branch of the Ocean County Library, 301 Lexington Ave., 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays from Feb. 9 through April 13.

      'My Fair Lady' to be presented at Strand
            The Strand Theater Ensemble will perform "My Fair Lady" at the Strand Theater, Clifton Avenue, Lakewood. Shows will take place March 2, 3, 9 and 10 at 8 p.m. and March 4 and 11 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $25 per adult; senior, child and student discounts are available.

      Recruits graduate from Ocean police academy
            For almost 24 weeks, 56 police recruits from across Ocean County were put through their paces in academics, physical fitness and marksmanship. The 56 successfully completed their time at the Ocean County Police Acad-emy and were recognized during recent graduation ceremonies held at Georgian Court University, Lakewood. The key-note speaker was Ocean County Pros-ecutor Thomas F.

      Female artists exhibit work at Lakewood library
            As a special presentation for National Women's History Month, the Lakewood branch of the Ocean County Library will host a group exhibit by the Ocean County Artists Guild during March. Eight women artists will display a selection of multimedia art work in the library's meeting room, 301 Lexington Ave., Lakewood, throughout the month.
