Golf lessons to be offered at Ocean County Park
      Golf lessons will be given 8-9 a.m. and 9:15-10:15 a.m. on Saturdays, April 7-28, at the golf driving range in Ocean County Park, Route 88, Lakewood. Classroom discussion will be held on rain days in the Beach Complex Building. Fee: $36 per player ages 16 and up.

Community School plans Lancaster trip
      The Lakewood Community School is sponsoring a two-day trip to Lancaster, Pa., April 27- 28. Trip includes bus transportation, one night's lodging, buffet breakfast, lunch at Shady Maple Restaurant, dinner and show at Dutch Apple Theater, guided tour of farmlands, shopping at Kitchen Kettle and Rockvale Outlets and more. Howell finishes third at stepping competition
      Manalapan High School rocked to the sounds of feet stomping and hands clapping as students from seven high schools competed in a stepping competition during the school's annual African-American Heritage Festival held last week. Sayreville War Memorial High School of Middlesex County won first place, while Manalapan High School placed second and Howell High School came in third.

      Smoke alarm batteries need to be changed once a year. Daylight savings time begins on March 11 and serves as a reminder to change smoke alarm batteries at the same time. Once batteries have been changed, all smoke alarms should be tested to be sure they are working.

      The Strand Theatre, Fourth Street and Clifton Avenue, Lakewood, will present authentic Irish bands Teada and Grada March 17 at 8 p.m. Teada performs seasonal Irish cultural traditions through songs and tales, blending instrumentals and vocals.

Church will host debutante cotillion
      The Macedonia Baptist Church of Lakewood will sponsor the Debutante and Escort Scholarship Cotillion April 7 at the Crystal Point Yacht Club in Point Pleasant. The purpose of the event is to raise scholarship funds for local high school seniors. Doors will open at 11 a.m. Tickets are $45 per person. Sponsorship opportunities are available.
