      Afternoon tea honors Lakewood's rich history
            Afternoon Tea at the Museum will be presented March 18 at the Lakewood Heritage Museum, 655 Princeton Ave., Lakewood. An authentic Lakewood in the late 1890s and early 1900s will be reproduced for the event. The tea will be accompanied by the reading of poetry written in and about Lakewood's colorful history.

            + The following weekend programs will take place at Cattus Island County Park, Toms River. The programs are free and do not require preregistration. From 11-11:30 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays during March and April (except April 8), the public can join a naturalist for an up-close and personal look at live turtles and snakes. From 1:30-2 p.m.

      Self-defense class for women scheduled
            A one night Women's Self-Defense Class will be offered by the Lakewood Community School on March 19 or April 16 at Lakewood High School, 855 Somerset Ave., from 7-9 p.m. Students will learn techniques to protect against street attacks, personal assaults and abductions.
