Soap opera stars will visit 'Stars That Shine'
      The second annual "Stars That Shine" casino night karaoke and celebrity bartending soap opera event has been scheduled for April 14 at the Deal Golf and Country Club, Deal. The event is a fundraiser to benefit the Central Jersey Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

St. Patrick's Day Oldies Dance Party, Italian style
      The Ocean County Columbus Day Parade Committee along with the Columbia Civic League of Ocean County will host an Oldies Dance Party to celebrate St. Patrick's Day - Italian style, March 31, 7-11 p.m. at the Brick Elks Lodge, Hooper Ave., Brick. A $30 donation will entitle guests to a complete Italian Dinner with an open bar and dancing all night.

Self-defense class for women scheduled April 16
      A one-night women's self-defense class will be offered by the Lakewood Community School on April 16 at Lakewood High School, 855 Somerset Ave., from 7-9 p.m. Students will learn techniques to protect against street attacks, personal assaults and abductions. Free Mets tickets to blood donors March 31
      A blood drive will be held March 31, 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Ocean County Mall, 1201 Hooper Ave., Toms River. Each donor will receive two free Mets tickets and free cholesterol screening. The New Jersey Blood Services' bloodmobile will be parked by the main entrance to the mall near Boscov's. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are accepted.
