      HOWELL - The Howell High School gymnasium was adorned from corner to corner with Mexican decorations called papel picadu (cut paper). As new member Sharon Dey and returning member Linda Lackay took their seats at the dais, Business Administrator Gregory J. Brennan presented the certified results from the April 17 election.

District gets boost from state grant

      JACKSON - The Jackson School District has won a $500,000 competitive grant to enhance and expand in-district programs for students with disabilities. The news was welcomed by Board of Education members, Superintendent of Schools Thomas Gialanella and Laurie Keats, the district's grant coordinator.

New Egypt Primary School teacher, principal win grants
      PLUMSTED - The New Jersey Education Association has awarded Julie Schad of the New Egypt Primary School a grant in the amount of $8,200. Schad, a first-year ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher, won the grant for her proposal of an adult literacy program in New Egypt.

Police investigate incident involving stranger in car

      HOWELL - Pupils at the Newbury and Taunton schools were sent home with a notice on April 30 alerting parents to a report police had received from a parent in the Candlewood section of Howell who told police he had seen a man in a car allegedly taking pictures of children in the neighborhood on April 29.

Club celebrates 10 years of public speaking help
      Almost 75 people feted the Free-hold Phrasers Toastmasters Club at a special dinner meeting held on April 18 at the Freehold Gardens Hotel and Conference Center, Freehold Township, in recognition of the club's 10th anniversary. The event was officially opened by the presentation of colors by the Old Bridge High School Air Force JROTC honor guard.
