Battle of Bands at Howell library
      HOWELL - The first Teen Battle of the Bands presented by Howell Library, 318 Old Tavern Road, will kick off the young adult summer reading program June 30 from 1-4 p.m. (rain date July 7) at the library. The event provides the opportunity for teens to gather with friends to celebrate the end of the school year and the beginning of a summer of reading.

Project Child Find aids disabled children
      Disabled children from infant through age 5 may receive special services to meet developmental needs. Parents may contact Early Intervention Services, Lakewood Head Start or the Lakewood Board of Education to receive free and appropriate special education and related services. Eligible children may be evaluated and receive services at no cost to the parent.

      + AMVETS Post 2, 1290 Toms River Road (Route 571 near Ridgeway Boulevard), Jackson, will host a fundraiser at 8 p.m. June 30. Profes-sional comedians Jerry Torres and Ray DeVito will perform. Proceeds benefit services and programs for local veterans. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., hors'doeuvres at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20. Anyone over the age of 21 is welcome to attend.

Jackson to celebrate Fourth of July
      Jackson's Independence Day celebration will be held July 1 at John F. John-son Jr. Memorial Park, Cooks Bridge Road and Manhattan Street. In the event of inclement weather, the celebration will be held July 2. Music will be provided by DJ Beats Per Minute beginning at 3 p.m. Jimmy and the Parrots will perform from 4-6 p.m., and Dr. Cheeko will perform at 6:30 p.m.
