Elks blood drive to aid ailing Jackson girl
      The Central Jersey Blood Center will host a blood drive at the Lakewood Elks Lodge No. 1432, 711 W. Kennedy Blvd., Lakewood, on Aug. 31 from 4-8 p.m. The event is being held on behalf of a young girl from Jackson who was diagnosed with a rare bone marrow disorder and needs blood transfusions every two to three weeks. Knights council is phone collection center
      Knights of Columbus Council No. 6201, 401 Bartley Road, Jackson, has joined the Cell Phones for Soldiers program as an official phone collection center. Cell phones may be dropped off at their address during normal business hours - Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 5-10 p.m.; and Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from noon to 10 p.m.

Plumsted library collecting used books
      The Friends of the Plumsted Library will collect used books Sept. 1 and Oct. 6, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.. The books will be sold at a book sale in November. Books, videos, CDs, DVDs, puzzles and comic books in good condition will be accepted. Books may be dropped off behind the New Egypt Historical Building on Evergreen Road in New Egypt.

Monsignor Donovan golf outing rescheduled
      The 14th annual St. Joseph/Monsignor Donovan High School (SJ/MDHS) Alumni Sponsored Golf Outing will be held Oct. 4 at Sea Oaks Golf Club in Little Egg Harbor. The outing was originally scheduled for May 17 but was postponed due to area wildfires. Alumni, family and friends of SJ/MDHS are all welcome to attend.

      The Lakewood Community School is accepting reservations for a bus trip to the San Gennaro Festival in New York City, set for 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 22. This celebration honors St. Gennaro, patron saint of Naples, and features plentiful Italian delights, entertainment and a parade. The fee of $28 includes bus transportation and driver gratuity.

      The Jackson Alumni Hall of Fame trustees are seeking nominees for the Jackson Memorial High School Alumni Hall of Fame. Those selected will be honored at an induction ceremony in October.
