Arbor Day Foundation offers 10 free trees
      Ten free trees, all of which are autumn classics, will be given to each person who joins The Arbor Day Foundation during October. The free trees are part of the nonprofit foundation's Trees for America campaign, a program dedicated to environmental stewardship through the planting of trees.

Jackson will provide rabies shots to pets
      Three-year immunization vaccinations will be given to cats and dogs at a free rabies clinic which will be held at the Jackson public works garage, Don Connor Boulevard, on Oct. 13 from 1-3 p.m. "It's important that cats and dogs get their rabies shots," animal control officer Joe Sbano said.

Beginner computer class offered in Lakewood
      Registration is currently in progress for a "Computers for Beginners" class offered by the Lakewood Community School Program. This two-week course will be held at Lakewood High School, 855 Somerset Ave., Lakewood, Oct. 16 and Oct. 23, 7-9 p.m. It is specifically designed for the adult with little or no knowledge of computers. The fee to attend is $25.

      On Oct. 20 the first Ryan Bell Memorial Walk and Wheel-A-Thon will be held at Brookdale Community College, Lincroft. Ryan was a student at the Schroth School of LADACIN Network for seven years, where he received education, therapy and other services.

      The Lakewood Community School is accepting reservations for the Broadway musical "Curtains" currently starring David Hyde Pierce, scheduled for Nov. 17. The fee for transportation and orchestra tickets for this backstage murder-mystery musical comedy from the creators of "Chicago" and "Cabaret" is $130. The bus will depart from Lakewood at 9:45 a.m.

      The Lakewood Community School is accepting reservations for the "Historic Tour of Lakewood," Oct. 23 at 10 a.m. Join tour guides Edith and Sheldon Wolpin on a tour of Lakewood recreational and municipal facilities, schools, churches, synagogues, the Strand Theater, the heritage museum and more. Lunch is included at Georgian Court University. Fee is $17.
