      Tight playoff game provides excitement in Howell

      New Egypt football makes football postseason
      Jackson also qualifies for playoffs
            After twice failing to qualify for the state tournament by a single point, the New Egypt High School football team achieved its elusive goal for the first time in school history last week with a 27- 13 win over Riverside. Following its victory over Riverside, the players and coaches from New Egypt could only wait for the results of the Cinnaminson Palmyra matchup.

      Jackson soccer wins 3-1, advances to state title game
            T here were no secrets to hide by the time these two schools met for the fourth time this season. In fact, they knew each other all too well. The Jackson and Brick Memorial high school girls soccer teams squared off Monday in the semifinals of the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group IV tournament.

      Jaguars suffer tough loss to end season
      Boys soccer finishes season at 15-5-2
            The Jackson High School boys soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss last week to Rancocas Valley in the quarterfinals of the NJSIAA Central. In a game that featured a called-back goal and one that appeared to cross the goal but wasn't recognized, Rancocas Valley managed to slip in a shot in the final minute of play to escape with a 1-0 victory.

      Fish On
      Bass fishing starting to come alive in area
            Surf reports from Ortley Beach north to the Sandy Hook rips are finally producing some keeper size bass. Wind conditions made it tough to get out but anglers off the surf made up for it. Heavier rods and weight were able to produce bass from 12-18 pounds. According to surf anglers, there are plenty of bass headed our way.

            While many people involved in the 2007 Breeders' Cup see the last Breeders' Cup race on Saturday as the conclusion of many years of planning and preparing for the world's greatest day of racing, New Jersey's thoroughbred horsemen and women see it as the launch of a new era for New Jersey horse racing.
