Synagogue to present family puppet show
      Congregation Ahavat Achim, 106 Windeler Road, Howell, will present the Tuckers' Tales Puppet Theatre's "Cirkus" show Dec. 16 at 10 a.m. The half-hour family show will combine a lively variety show with lovable characters. Tucker's Tales Puppet Theatre is a Philadelphia-based performing company founded in 1981.

Songwriters of the last century to be honored
      Adults and young adults are invited to enjoy the singing and storytelling abilities of Maggie Worsdale at the Jackson library, 2 Jackson Drive, Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. as she takes them through generations of songs written by the greatest Jewish-American songwriters of the last century.

Pajamas being collected for children
      Some children are so in need that they do not own a pair of pajamas. They sleep in their clothes or in their underwear. This fact became nationally known when Genevieve Piturro appeared on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" five years ago to explain her experience giving new pajamas to children in shelters.

Harlem Wizards will play ball in Jackson
      The PUN of the Crawford-Rodriguez Elementary School, Jackson, is sponsoring an appearance by the Harlem Wizards basketball team on Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. at Jackson Liberty High School. The Harlem Wizards is a professional team of basketball players performing tricks, hoops, alley-oops and a whole lot more. The Wizards have been playing around the world since 1962.

      The Center for Healthy Living at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood, is offering a two-session defensive driving course from 12:30-4:30 p.m. Jan. 7 and Jan. 14. The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) refresher course is intended for drivers of all ages who need to sharpen their driving skills.

Southard Grange has it all, from music to hay
      The Southard Grange on Route 9 in Howell has many opportunities for the community to take advantage of this season. According to Elaine Taylor, who oversees the community service events at the Southard Grange, Christmas trees, wreaths and grave blankets are currently being sold during the hours of 6-9 p.m. weeknights and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
