            BlueClaws starting pitcher Drew Naylor tosses the first pitch of the game to a Lake County batter during opening night at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood on April 3. The BlueClaws fell to the Captains by a score of 4-0.

      Sports Shorts
            The Jackson Heat 11U baseball teamwon the championship at the Sports at the Beach baseball tournament by going 4-0. The semifinal game was against the Maryland Titans with Jackson winning in dramatic walk-off fashion, 9-8. Joel Rivera pitched four strong innings. Ben Sanders hit two home runs and also threw two scoreless innings.

      Scherholz, Morton lead New Egypt lacrosse
            New Egypt High School senior lacrosse players Shane Scherholz and Tommy Morton are having no difficulty finding the back of the cage. The two upperclassmen have sparked the Warriors offense as New Egypt is off to a 2-2 start in the 2008 season.

      Jax Memorial softball off to 0-2 start
            The Jackson Memorial High School girls softball team has suffered a pair of tough losses to open the 2008 campaign. After being blanked by Lacey on opening day, 4-0, the Lady Jags were the victims of a 7-5 extra-inning loss Monday to Toms River North.
