      Resident cites garbage problem in Howell
            In a recent letter to the editor, Nancy Clay of Howell lamented how the litter on the streets of Howell is embarrassing. I am concurring with her assessment 100 percent. My wife and I like to walk around our neighborhood and we frequently comment to each other how much "garbage" is around the nonresidential areas where we walk.

      Public invited to watch radio controlled planes
            Irepresent the Ocean County Modelers, an organization of radio-controlled model airplane enthusiasts that meets at 7:30 p.m. in the lower level of the Manchester town hall on the fourth Wednesday of the month. Our club has access to an abandoned landfill site, courtesy of the township of Jackson, which we put to good use as a flying field.

            Iunderstand with some dismay that (New Jersey officials) intend closing the Monmouth Battlefield State Park in Manalapan.

      Gov. Corzine should not close Brendan Byrne State Forest
            The 36,000-acre Brendan Byrne State Forest in Ocean and Burlington counties is an outdoor enthusiast's haven. This state park is also on the list of nine New Jersey parks to be closed by the governor on July 1 to save the state money. The park is the focal point for many outdoor activities and attracts people from all over New Jersey and the United States.

      EMS volunteers are urgently needed throughout New Jersey
            The approach of national EMS Week (May 18-24) provides a timely opportunity to remind the public of the need for EMS volunteers. Every day illnesses, New Jersey's aging population and congested roads tax our already-overstretched emergency health-care system, and the demand for frontline responders will only increase.
