      Plumsted students honored
            PLUMSTED - A New Egypt High School senior has become the first Plumsted resident to win the 14th annual statewide municipal leaders scholarship competition for 2008, sponsored by the New Jersey State League of Municipalities that represents all 566 municipalities in the Garden State.

            Under a clear blue sky on the open fields of Shark River Park in Wall Township, a group of about 225 pupils from the Howell K-8 School District displayed their athleticism in the 22nd year of Howell Mania, the district's version of the Special Olympics.

      Town's school tab cut angers board members
            FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP- Emotions ran high as Freehold Township Board of Education members voted 7-2 on May 13 to accept the Township Committee's decision to cut the 2008-09 tax levy by $923,369. In effect, municipal officials have told the school board that it may collect just over $53 million from Freehold Township property owners in the coming year, instead of the $53.

      Bill would move school election, end budget vote
            New Jersey Assembly Speaker Joseph Roberts (D-Camden) has introduced legislation that would eliminate the state's April school election and move the election for school board members to the date of the November general election.

            JACKSON - This week, the Jackson Board of Education will determine how to make cuts in the 2008-09 school budget that the Township Council has directed be made. On May 15, the council certified a school tax levy of $62.75 million for the upcoming school year.

      New Egypt High School expands to outdoor class
            PLUMSTED- New EgyptHigh School has expanded by adding a new outdoor classroom and solving a flooding problem in the process. "A rain garden with New Jersey native plants was created to capture and filter runoff water from the student parking area," said Jamie Donahue, the school's biology and New Jersey coastal ecology teacher.
